Sergeant Robert Jackson

On January 31, 1978 Sergeant Robert Jackson, had just arrived at his home in Dothan, Alabama when shots rang out. Robert was shot as he was getting out of his car, after a long day at the Dothan Police Department where he worked in the Narcotics Division. Robert was a Vietnam Veteran and one of the first Black Narcotics Police Officers in Dothan, and area still known for its white supremacy. As Robert lay dying, his wife ran to his side, she held him in her arms as he died; their two small children watched nearby.

Robert had been shot by a 12-gauge double barreled shotgun by a gunman in a car. There was very little for the police to go on. Soon after George Wallace, the Governor, announced a $10,000 reward for any information that could led to the conviction of the perpetrator. Then there was silence, so much silence that conspiracies began to form; they felt the Police Department knew more than they led the public to believe. People began to whisper that White Supremacists were the culprits of this heinous crime.

Jon B. Carroll wrote in his blog the Henry Report that a former Dothan Police Officer named Wykle Williams believed that his father had ordered Robert's death. His father's name was W.D. Williams; he confessed to Wykle on his deathbed, that he had ordered the assassination because Robert was investigating him for large amounts of Cocaine. There is some evidence that the FBI was aware of this confession but decided not to press charges as W.D. was on his deathbed. W.D. named three men, whom he had hired, they were Jimmy Albritton the shooter, Drury Mills the Driver, and Neil Walker the lookout. No charges have been filed for any of these suspects and as of this writing this case is still deemed opened.

Robert Jackson Murdered

  1. Of interest to all Ozark and Dothan citizens below and all concerned law enforcement officers, forcefully suggest you and others in positions of influence and capabilities investigate a man in the Dothan community named Wykle Williams aka Phil Smitherman and Edwin Cox related to murders of Robert Jackson and JB Hawlett Beasely. Williams allegedly confessed to involvement in direct knowledge of the murder of our Dothan police officer named Robert F. Jackson at given order of his father, well known reputed gambling and drug kingpin W.D. Williams . He had meetings with the sister of murdered J.B Hawlett-Beasley and in those meetings knew details of the murders and why they were killed and for what purpose. He allegedly has no alibi at time of murders and was in close proximity , 20 +/- miles. It is possible he now wants to clear his conscience of his involvements in these brutal unsolved murders. Anyone in the community of Dothan or Ozark and Enterprise that sees Wykle Williams, or knows of his current whereabouts, call the FBI or notify state law enforcement so they can question him. I do not know if he as a connection to this murder of Ms Williams in Abbeville or not but notice it is in the same general area afetr recent abbeville discussions. Williams cannot explain why he had information about the the other three murders all these years and did nothing . He now is engaged in a effort to try to prevent the public from reading documents that were leaked to Moe Lucas, Danny Hendricks, Tiffany Yolcomb, Robbie Pelham, John Caroll from Alabama that he admits having had. This sounds suspicious a man would have such documents in his possession and he conceal them from the public or those seeking to solve the crime by making them public. In my opinion Wykle Williams is a serious person of interest in this case until he can explain how he came into possession of documents and privileged law enforcement and knows intimate details about the murders and then kept silent for over 18 years. If this information was not given to him by the Ozark police dept directly which is very doubtful then he is a suspect. Please be on the lookout for a older white male named Wykle Williams and using aliases Edwin Cox and Phil Smitherman. Lets all make sure that he does not prevent the public from reading these documents that could help solve the murders or lead to a tip. Anyone with information about these murders i have been told that a investigator in the attorney generals office is actively working the case named Investigator Shawn Smith at 334-242-7300 Anyone who has screenshots or copies of the documents Wykle Williams is trying to hide from the public and keep from investigators working the Beasley Hawlett case are urged to send them directly to the Alabama Attorney General's cold case unit. Williams is trying to keep them hid for a reason.
